*Uma das versões do LP (Marlene:Songs in German by the inimitable Dietrich) veio com o seguinte texto:
To say that the magic of Marlene Dietrich grows stronger every year is only half the story: the spell she casts in her one-woman show and in films was best summed up by Ernest Hemingway: “If she had nothing more than her voice, she could break your heart with it. But she also has that beautiful body and the timeless loveliness of her face.”
Yes, there is more: the humanity of the woman who won the U.S. Defense Department’s Medal of Freedom for services in bolstering the spirits of American fighting men during World War II – far beyond the call of duty for a new citizen...the woman who was risen above intense dedication to her art, to feel so deeply about the world around her...
The songs in this album illustrate her humanity: her tenderness toward children (The Little Drummer Boy; Puff, the Magic Dragon and Hush Little Baby)... her abhorrence of war (In den Kaserner and Bob Dylan’s Blowing in the Wind)...her sensitivity to the importance of love in the world’s scheme of things (Theme for Young Lovers and Und wenn er wiederkomml)... Then there is the unforgettable Czech song (Czy mnie jeszcze pamietasz) for which she wrote the German words as Mutter, kannst du mich vergeben...
All are sung in German;but feeling the unique beauty of Marlene Dietrich’s singing isn’t conditional upon understanding. She communicates her meaning to anyone with a heart. The arrangements, too, complement her magic, with fascinating backgrounds, some with a touch of Mersey beat, others with a folk flavor, still others with na aura of intimate cabaret... and each exactly suited to the song.
